When people kill in the name of faith, we know that somewhere humanity is lying dead — Sarbani's powerful poem.

Yet another lamb bound for the altar of hate,
as chants rose up to the skies
and filled the air with a billow of smoke
rancid with the bitterness of forced words pushed down his throat.

He sputtered for help,
trying to solicit a sympathetic sigh
but none would hear:
The raining blows muffled his cries.
