Juan hoodwinked the Nazi spy network for decades with fake intelligence reports; they were so convincing that Hitler awarded him with a medal for his services.

In the movie ‘Inglourious Basterds,’ an agent of the Allied forces gets caught because he makes a very simple mistake of signalling the number three using his first three fingers – the Germans do it by using their thumb and the first two fingers. This minute mistake blows the spy’s cover. Judging by this story, one can fathom how difficult it is for spies to perform their tasks with absolute perfection so as to not end up getting caught.

The job of a spy is rigorous and challenging. In order to become a spy, one needs to be meticulous, diligent and assiduous. It requires physical training which includes a lot of exercises that test endurance and combat techniques. These techniques do not usually depend upon weapons because spies must be able to defend themselves in all sorts of situations. The most important weapon is intelligence and loyalty to the country.

This life of adventure, which is nothing short of a thriller, comes with its own set of challenges. It is expected that, when the situation demands, a spy would be ready to give up his life.

During the second world war, many spies were recruited by both the Allied and the Axis forces. It was not uncommon for a spy of one country to go and snoop around in enemy territories.
