Why do some scientists become permanent national icons while others are pushed to the margins of public memory?

A nation’s relationship with its scientists reveals more than its commitment to knowledge. It reveals how it understands identity, belonging, and collective memory. Scientific discoveries may transform humanity’s understanding of the universe, but the remembrance of scientists is rarely determined by scientific achievement alone. It is shaped by institutions, politics, and the stories nations choose to tell about themselves.
