What work did Sonia Gandhi do from 1963 to 1968? I can tell you here: she was a Vaishya (a prostitute), and she was working for a Pakistani escort agency.
Years ago, in a recorded video, Subramanyam Swamy, a BJP Member of Parliament, made the above mentioned statement on Sonia Gandhi. The audience who heard him say this defamatory, cringeworthy statement laughed. People who shared the dias with Swamy coughed and smirked in embarrassment.
It’s common knowledge that some of India’s politicians use uncouth language and make baseless, defamatory allegations against their political opponents. More often than not, India’s politicians who make false accusations go scott free without facing consequences. Subramaniam Swamy, a BJP member, is a case in point.
The Harvard educated BJP member, who served as a Member of Parliament, made several accusations against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. For instance, in an interview with a Television network, Swamy said, “Sonia Gandhi herself had a connection with Palestinian militants when she was in London.”
Swamy also said Sonia Gandhi is “a Rakshasi (a fiend),” who “did not study more than class five in Italy.” He also attacked all three on their religious beliefs. In his opinion, all three members of the Gandhi family – Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi – are “doing Banavanti” (pretending to be) Hindus. But in Swami’s reality, “they are only Christians.” It seems, “every Sunday, she does prayaschit (confession).”
Doesn’t Swamy understand that children born to inter faith parents can choose their religious views? What is wrong with them believing in Hinduism, Christianity, Sikhism, Islam, Buddhism or any other religion of their choice? Swamy (he married a woman from another religion, his daughter married a Muslim) should know about it.
Swami also alleged that Rahul Gandhi “was caught in Boston airport with $1,60,000.” And claimed that “Vajpayee got him released. Otherwise, he would have gone to jail.” He did not mention why Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister of India, a senior member of the BJP, was complicit in facilitating such a thing.
Swami also stated that “Rahul Gandhi has four passports. Two Indian Passports. One Italian Passport. One London Passport…One more passport is in the name of Rahul Vinci…But Advani did not conduct any investigation.”
In the same interview, he also accused Arun Jaitley, a member of the BJP party, former Finance Minister of India, Arun Jaitley, of intimidating senior officials and asking them not to proceed against the former Finance Minister of India, Mr P Chidambaram. “Arun Jaitley is mixed with Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. He called a meeting of top officials and told an officer, named Rajeshwar, from the Enforcement Directorate, that Chidambaram is my friend. If anyone goes against him, I will launch an investigation into him. And Arun Jaitley started an official enquiry against him,” he said.
If true, this is a serious allegation. But did he come out with proof or evidence to back his claims? No.
For a long time, Subramaniam Swamy, has been fixated on Sonia Gandhi. He repeatedly made allegations against her. Most things he said about her are mere conspiracy theories – not facts. For example, he said the Soviet Union killed Sanjay Gandhi, son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to benefit Sonia. Why? Because, according to Swamy, Sonia is the heir apparent of a KGB agent. (KGB was Soviet Union’s intelligence agency) Proof or evidence? None.
Swami also claimed that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi are Nazi Italians. In a tweet, he said:
Both mother and son TDK and RG have bluffing the nation about their real Nazi Italian background, Citizenship, educational qualification and foreign bank accounts. No more they should be allowed get away with it.”
Swami also said that Sonia is also the reason why Indira Gandhi attacked the Golden Temple in 1984. That, according to Swamy, was a tactic by the Soviet Union to make India more dependant on them for weapons during the war against Pakistan.
Swami has used vicious and vile language on Sonia Gandhi. One day, it is Vaishya, the other day, it is a Nazi, yet again it is a Rakshasi (fiend) or Vishkanya (poisonous woman who were considered assassins in Ancient India).
Did he prove any of this? No. Did the Parliament ban him for saying such obscene, cheap remarks without any proof? No. No person with basic sense of decency or ethics would use such vile, derogatory language against a political opponent. But it is common practice for some of India’s politicians, scoundrels who masquerade as law makers, to resort to such cheap, sensationalist tactics for electoral gains.
The media, instead of asking for evidence, just parleys those statements without any evidence. Such cheap talk tends to go viral on WhatsApp. And sadly, even after decades, such statements (videos or articles on WhatsApp) makes its rounds on WhatsApp even today. And many who learn from the University of WhatsApp believe such conspiracy theories.
Swamy is not alone in the name-calling and the targeting with conspiracy theories. The party he belongs to, the BJP, has been indulging in this for decades. However, it is by no means restricted to one party. Almost every political party resorts to such name calling.
Recently, a court in India has sentenced Rahul Gandhi for criminal defamation. He has been disqualified from being a Member of Parliament. Will the court sentence Subramanyam Swamy for criminal defamation?
