This is the season for exchanging greetings and good wishes. Yet, it is difficult not to recognise that the world is in disarray, and moving towards disaster, or rather rushing towards it. Why is it so?
The primary reason is the poor quality of political leadership in the office. Obviously, as most of them are democratically elected, the voters too are responsible, in a moral sense, for the disarray.
Democracy is much more than periodical elections. For democracy to flourish and deliver, the electorate should be intelligent and alert. They should not be brain-washable. All told, one sees a growing trend of softening of the head and hardening of the heart.
The year has ended. So has the second decade of the 21st century. For those of us who grew up post-World War II, it is painfully evident that this decade has been more violent than most others. The decade has been rich in disasters, both natural and anthropogenic.
