President Vladimir Putin’s war on Ukraine is about to enter the second month. Thousands of Ukrainians have died. Millions of Ukrainians have lost their homes. Seeking refuge, they moved into neighbouring countries. The humanitarian catastrophe of the Ukraine war is heartbreaking.
President Zelensky has repeatedly asked for a direct meeting with Putin to negotiate a truce. High level diplomats from the two countries are continuing their negotiations. Even as Russia continues to bomb Ukraine, even as war seems to intensify, there seems to be some hope that the two countries may cease hostilities, agree to a ceasefire and advance in peace talks.
However, even as Ukraine and Russia seem to signal progress in their talks to agree to a cease-fire, is it the case that President Biden and the American establishment are doing their utmost to prevent such a ceasefire?
Before attempting an answer, we need to address a few more matters.
