Profanity–such as madarchod & behenchod–has been normalised in contemporary cinema. OTT platforms are serving a strong dose of violence & sex to sell their content.

Let me ask you a question: How many of you use the expletives Behen Chod (sister fucker), Madar Chod (mother fucker) or Bhosedeekay with your friends, family or acquaintances on a regular basis? Do you use these expletives on a liberal basis – in every other sentence?

You may wonder why such a question is relevant. Consider this scene from the famous Netflix series The Family Man: Srikant Tiwari, the so-called ‘world class spy,’ played by Manoj Bajpayee, is with a doctor who advises him to choose a life that is less stressful, asks him to drink less and eat healthy. Srikant Tiwari, the man in a hurry always responding to the call of duty, responds – “I understood doctor sahib – drink less, smoke less, eat less, reduce stress – that means, stop living. I’d rather commit suicide – Behen Chod!”

Behen Chod? That too with a doctor? Seriously?

Deconstruct the scene for a second. Ask yourself a simple question: would a half-decent man, let alone a ‘world class spy,’ use such language with a doctor? I don’t want to insult your intelligence by suggesting the obvious answer.

Why, then, is it acceptable for OTT platforms and filmmakers, in the name of ‘creativity’ and ‘artistic freedom,’ to use obscene, vulgar language?
