Indian State Police Are Discrediting The Hathras Rape Case: Here’s How

Citing a shoddy forensic investigation, the Uttar Pradesh police is discrediting the Hathras rape case.

The murder and alleged gang rape of a Dalit girl from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, is evolving into a case of smoke and mirrors. There are discrepancies between the autopsy report/“Death Summary” (MRD No: 51659) and the Post-Mortem Report (No 2131/20).

The UP police have, in the name of “cremation,” successfully destroyed evidence of gang rape. And, given the procedural inconsistencies and excesses, the case will go down in history as one that highlights extraordinary travesty of justice by the state’s law enforcement officials.

A Brief History Of The Case

On September 14, 2020, four men belonging to the Thakur caste – Sandeep (20), his uncle Ravi (35) and their friends Luv Kush (23) and Ramu (26) –  abducted a Dalit girl from the fields and raped her. They assaulted her most brutally – lacerated her tongue, broke her neck and spinal cord, and left her paralysed on all four limbs.

Her mother and brother, who found her in a vegetative state in the fields, rushed her to the hospital. They also filed a police complaint.
