When COVID-19 first broke out, there was barely any research on it. As a consequence, the government could only put out guidelines that would help the people. One of these guidelines included the use of Ayurveda and yoga to help asymptomatic and mild COVID patients, as well as prevent COVID altogether. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan asked the citizens to use Ayurvedic medicine such as Ashwagandha and AYUSH-65.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), however, had one problem with the guideline–it was not scientific. The IMA raised the issue with the government. They asked, “Whether the proponents of this claim and his Ministry are prepared to subject themselves as volunteers to an independent prospective double-blind control study in prevention and treatment of COVID? How many of his ministerial colleagues have so far made the informed choice of getting treated under these protocols?” Until now, no one from the government volunteered to do so.
Ayurveda works on many occasions. It works for stomach problems and hair problems, and even cures Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). For a long time, however, there have been many questions raised by doctors and scientists about the scientific accuracy of Ayurveda.
