Numerous racist attacks on Africans in India display deep-rooted racism. Are Indians the most racist people in the world?

In the BBC’s 2014 country ratings poll, Nigeria emerged as the nation with the most positive outlook on India’s role in the world. It was higher than India’s own estimation of itself. The countries that liked India the most were all Africa in – Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana.

It’s a sign of faith, that many Indians have betrayed year-after-year, with a slew of racist attacks on African nationals. Is India’s famous inclusiveness exclusive to certain nationalities?

In March 2017, mobs of hundreds of people attacked African nationals in parts of Greater Noida near Delhi, after an Indian student’s suicide was blamed on a drug overdose. They attacked with impunity, demanding that Africans leave their homes in the area. Their justification? The Africans were a bad influence! Among those attacked were students from Nigeria, majoring in Economics and Biotechnology – who are no longer sure if they want to continue their studies in India.

Shashi Tharoor, a Member of Parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, attempted an apology in his tweet.

A few racist thugs in Greater Delhi have given our country a bad name…Most Indians are not like this. Come South!
