While messianism was common across the Islamic world, Akbar's coins show how he adapted the idea to an Indian context.

Akbar, the third Mughal emperor, ascended to the throne in 1556, when he was only fourteen years old. The Mughal empire, merely a few decades old, truly flourished under Akbar. 

He set up economic, military, and social institutions that would shape the empire for years. A crucial aspect of the composite bureaucratic structure established by Akbar was the introduction of a trimetallic coinage system. John Deyell, a numismatic historian, notes

Akbar’s decision to foster a strong currency is an indication of his assessment of the prospects of his rule and of his nascent intention to fashion a centralised state.
