Without Domingo Paes' account, Krishnadevaraya's glorious rule would have been a mere figment of the imagination.

Krishnadevaraya, the King of Vijayanagara, was an early riser. He woke up before sunrise and prepared himself for the day. He started his day by drinking three-quarters of a pint of oil. Then, he covered his loins with a small cloth, took great weights in his arms and exercised with them till he sweated it all out.
