A correct understanding of the past is necessary for those who want to work for peace and goodwill in the subcontinent.

Satinder Kumar Lambah’s book, In Pursuit of Peace: India-Pakistan Relations Under Six Prime Ministers, provides a detailed, first-hand account of diplomatic relations between two nuclear-powered nations, India and Pakistan. Lambah, an eminent practitioner of the delicate art of diplomacy, dealt with Pakistan for more than half a century.

From the time he joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1964, Lambah dealt with Pakistan under six Prime Ministers: Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, P V Narasimha Rao, I K Gujral, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Dr Manmohan Singh. He started writing after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2019. The book, published posthumously, is of enduring value to scholars, diplomats and all those interested in diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan.
