Bollywood, as we know it today, has a lot of films that are made for commercial reasons. What they seek is fame, not impact. But at the same time, many impactful films have been threads that are sewn along with the commercial ones to make the pretty dress that is Bollywood. In this genre, both commercial and non-commercial films have their charm.
Normally, a dress is put together by a single tailor. But Bollywood has been sewn together by many tailors. They all went as came, each weaving their threads onto the dress with careful precision. Some of these people have been well-documented. The delicacy with which Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, and Mehboob Khan wove their thread is well-known.
However, some were either lost in the crowd or forgotten. One of them is Akkineni Lakshmi Vara Prasad Rao, or L.V. Prasad. An actor who featured in the first film with sound (AlamAra), he went on to direct and produce several Hindi and regional language films. He received the DadsahebPhalke award and was the first recipient of the RaghupathyVenkaiah award for his contribution to Telugu cinema.
He has a prolific body of work, directing 34 movies, acting in 12 and producing 20. His journey started when he embarked on a train from Andhra Pradesh to Victoria Terminus, Bombay. He stepped foot on that railway platform with the dream of working in Kohinoor Studios.
