Shrenik Rao

Shrenik Rao, a Fellow at University of Oxford’s Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and founder of 7MB, revived and relaunched the 231-year-old news brand Madras Courier digitally on October 12, 2016. He lectured at Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Chicago, London School of Economics, SOAS – the University of London, University of Westminster, interviewed heads of states and made documentaries that were broadcast in 54 countries. His most recent project was for History Channel.

The Madras Courier is the first newspaper to be established in the Madras Presidency, British India. Published on October 12, 1785, it was the leading newspaper of its time. Selling for a princely sum of one rupee, it thrived for three decades.
