Thought-provoking, interesting and unusual, this poem draws you into a vortex of the unknown.

For his thoughts are more than the sea, and
his counsels profounder than the great deep.
Ecclesiasticus, XXIV.29

It begins with upheaval, Noah closing in
with horns, antlers, everyone being
of the same sex passing through
the axis, if in the Amazon no less
but crossing the Red Sea known
by another name as women are on
their own, what Hebraic law will allow.

By lakeside not far from the Yangtze,
St Lawrence, or the Mississippi River
water rises to eye-level, where I see
women splayed out in their natural style
in my steadfast gaze: a photographer’s
lens intact fixed to one spot being
upstream, but coming from below
I indeed let you know.
