Three inverted triangles
cut across the four, moving upwards.
Fourteen lotus petals spread around and
nothing goes out of symmetry.
As the trembling fingers draw the lines
the central point takes over.
It’s the expectation of the mating now,
of the storm in the lower pool
and when the churning begins
what precious things emerge.
The fish reach the core of the sanctum
sanctorum and the resulting Tantric designs
reveal the squares, cross lines and then
in a flash open the ten thousand eyes.
There you see the, hitherto hidden,
two petaled bud
crystal clear
blossoming into
a full-fledged flower.

Madras Courier originally ran as a broadsheet with a poetry section. It was a time when readers felt comfortable sharing glimpses of their lives through verse. If you have a poem you’d like to submit, do email us at [email protected].
