The Girl Inside a Man

Siddhartha’s mystical poem is provocative & abstruse – stands apart for its poetic recompense.

Have you heard
About the man
Who hid inside
His own stomach
Ate his own intestine
And came out of his own mouth
Again and again
In the form
Of a worm?

He would then go back,
As the worm,
Into the deep dark depths
Of his own body
Through an artery
Leading to a secret lake
Next to the left atrium
Of his heart
Where,
He had heard,
Some wild swans
Gathered
At midnight
To fish
And where a little girl
Came to dance
At twilight
Under a sheath
Offallen stars.
