Our cities and towns have a way of adjusting to the new normal. Sirens are now the wake-up alarms. Bhaswati Ghosh writes a compelling poem.

The city has lost its alarm clock
and its watch. Bird call doesn’t
wake it up and crickets don’t dull
it to sleep. The city sounds alien now

Deafening traffic noise
no longer grates its ears. Hawkers’
calls are forgotten and children’s
din don’t put their school bells to shame.
