The bangle seller outside the Devi temple
has the foulest tongue,
haggles like a witch,
hurls curses at those who won’t buy,
stinks of yesterday’s terrible liquor.
She is the colour of humid dusk,
her long skirt whirls like a cyclone
and she drapes writhing beads
and bracelets all over her body.
