City Of Joy

Here’s a verse that narrates, quite imaginatively, how the city of joy unfolds.

At  ‘Dover Beach’
sand dunes are sucked in
by the turbulent sea.

The syllables of JUSTICE
shift from one praxis to another
Like an Alzheimer’s patient
slowly losing track of time and place

An entire city loses track of right and wrong.
A carbuncle filled with political pus
grows in size day by day
engulfing a garrulous crowd.

‘Lethe’ stands at one end
of the river of forgetfulness
to help us erase our memories.

Dionysus mocks Sisyphus’s attempt
to roll justice’s boulder up people’s minds.

The Greek army enters the ‘Sleeping City’
where reality wears a veil
where crimes are wrapped
inside the foil of gimmickry
and celebration takes over
the clarion call of justice.

Where the definition of ‘joy’
has long been twisted
to let oblivion get
the better of prudence.
