Humans are becoming more and more aware of climate change. We have intense heat during summers, rains and heat in December instead of cold, and fog that engulfs the atmosphere now and then.
These are tell-tale signs that the climate is changing and that we must do something about it. Individually we can all try, but it would not have the same impact as putting an end to crude oil and coal extraction.
Crude oil and coal are both extracted from the earth’s surface. There are two ways of extracting coal. One is through the surface, and the other is deep mining.
In surface mining, one removes dirt and whatever else the surface has, digs a little, and extracts coal. Later, the dirt is put back, and trees or plants can be grown. In deep mining, the mines are 1,000 feet deep. Sometimes they go 2000ft or even 4,800 feet deep. These are places that cannot be replaced.
