The protests in Hong Kong seek democracy, freedom & human rights. But the narrative that's presented is that of violence.

Hong Kong is going through a period of turmoil. The introduction of the extradition bill caused months of unrest. What started as a peaceful protest, seeking democracy and freedom, has resulted in an unsettling summer.

The extradition bill would have made it possible for people in Hong Kong to be extradited to mainland China; it threatens the freedoms guaranteed to the citizens of Hong Kong. Though the bill has now been withdrawn, people, seeking democracy and fundamental human rights, are asking for freedom for Hong Kong.

Thousands of protestors – clad in black masks, caps and shades to obscure their identity – have rallied outside the British Consulate in Hong Kong, shouting pro-democracy slogans:

One country, two systems is dead. Free Hong Kong.

They demanded the UK to push China to maintain the fundamental freedoms guaranteed during 1997 handover. Some protestors have carried the US Stars and Stripes flag for weeks, calling President Donald Trump to “liberate” Hong Kong.
