How do we deal with our dependence on technology?

“She is terrible at navigating,” all my friends would attest to the statement. I can’t even deny it, because if it wasn’t for google maps, I would be lost in my own city. Like every other person in my generation, I am heavily dependent on technology for my day-to-day tasks. I wonder, are we moving towards generations that would be lost without tech?

There is no denying that the exponential development of technology has helped civilization. However, there is also a dark side to it, as we note on our day to day basis. Some are worried that as individuals grow increasingly electronically linked, we may lose essential elements of the human experience, becoming impatient, impulsive, and forgetful.

My father has all the numbers of his friends and family members memorized. I remember that we used to keep a phonebook next to our old rotary dial phones. He tells me that writing phone numbers down had helped him memorize them. With the evolving technology of mobile phones, we will only be able to find these phones in museums.

I cannot remember phone numbers. In fact, I struggle remembering birth dates and anniversaries too. If my phone does not beep on time for an event, I am most likely to miss it.

Most people use smartphones, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, or economic position; in fact, you probably have one on you right now. As per the trend, the use of technology increases with newer generations.
