Hatred is the BJP's mantra to win elections; conveniently, they used God's name for whip up religious strife.

The BJP has a three-step formula for winning elections. In the past two decades, it has worked very well, helping them win seats with a remarkable consistency; it took the party from two seats in the 1984 general elections to 282 seats in 2014.

The three-step formula, based on the principle of divide and rule, is below:

Step one: convince the majority community in India, the Hindus, that they are being treated as second class citizens; tell them, through sustained political propaganda and meticulous indoctrination, that due to minority appeasement, their right to religious freedom is being snatched away.

Step two: invoke God’s name at the right time, at the right place; use his/her name to divide opinion, incite religious strife; the strategy of inciting riots works particularly well in states or places that are ruled by the BJP’s political opponents.

Step three: In a politico-religiously charged environment, claim that the BJP is the defender of the faith; tell the electorate that the BJP – and only the BJP – can help the Hindus gain their dignity and rights that their political opponents have denied them.
