Why is the Biden-Putin Summit significant? What does it say about the nature of global politics?

To the great relief of those who want to see more sanity and rationality in the conduct of international affairs, the Biden-Putin summit went off reasonably well, despite the Cassandras’ in galore, notably from the West, predicting non-success. Perhaps, they predicted non-success, partly because they wanted it. It is sad that there are scholars, otherwise competent, who want to indulge in self-fulfilling prophecies, not wanting a better and more peaceful world.

Is it the case that some scholars owe allegiance to the Military-Industrial Complex that President Eisenhower, in his farewell address, warned his compatriots about, way back in 1961?  It is painfully clear that America has definitely dismissed the warning.

We should credit both Putin and Biden for the success of the summit.  We note that the American side did not want to repeat the fiasco at Anchorage, when Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.

On March 22, 2021, Blinken made an opening statement to the media, practically scolding China which repaid in the same coin. Blinken scolded back and Yang Jiechi retaliated, all in the presence of the media. This is not diplomacy, to put it mildly.
