A British Military officer's postcards show what Secunderabad looked like in the early 1900s. It's a highway to nostalgia.

In May 1907, a football match took place between two teams – England and Scotland – in Trimulgherry, Secunderabad. Notwithstanding the scorching summer heat, hundreds of British and Indian cadets, dressed in their uniforms, gathered to watch the game.

The football grounds, surrounded by large trees and beautiful buildings, were filled with enthusiastic men cheering for their favourite team. Some of them came in their horse-driven carts, with binoculars in hand, to witness the event.

How do we know of this England-Scotland football rivalry that took place more than a hundred years ago – deep in the Deccan? From Stanley’s postcards.
