The Brihadeeswara temple is an architectural marvel representing the Dravidian temple construction style. It is also a monument reminiscnet of the glorious reign of the Chola kings.

Temples are much more than religious structures. They are historical monuments that give a glimpse into an era gone past. Indicators of social norms and customs, temples narrate stories of kings who ruled by sword and established a reign of glory. They are cultural artefacts that stand testimony to the artistic craftsmanship and architectural prowess of the people who inhabited the place. The Brihadeeswara temple in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, is a point in case.
