A Letter To Ruskin Bond

Dear Ruskin Bond: Years ago, I wrote a letter to you & I posted it to Landour, Mussoorie. Did you get it?

I have been reading Ruskin Bond’s books for years, and have always wanted to meet him sometime personally. It hasn’t happened all this while, so I thought I would write to him on his birthday. I do hope this letter reaches him in Landour, Mussoorie, as he cuts the cake and blows out the candles!

For me, reading has been a passion, and I deem it my good fortune to have come across Ruskin Bond’s writings. But let me confess, I got to read his books only when I was in my forties: certainly, it was a very good instance of better late than never.

Reading his poems, short stories and novels has given me immense pleasure; every work of his has enriched me in some way or other. I know many others would have told him the same thing, but I want to add my voice to theirs – very gladly at that.

Ruskin Bond’s stories tell us of the warmth of family, friends, neighbours, the society, including the poor and the homeless, of the care that we must give to the aged, the destitute, and the less privileged.
