Yiota Christodoulidou

Yiota Christodoulidou

Yiota (Panayiota) Christodoulidou was born in Famagusta, Cyprus, which has been occupied by Turkey since 1974. After becoming a refugee, she emigrated with her family to Australia where she lived until 1986. Yiota graduated from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, where she studied English Literature. Since being repatriated in 1986, she has taught English in private and public secondary schools on the island. Her interests include reading and writing. Some of her favourite poets are Seamus Heaney, T.S.Eliot and Thomas Hardy. Yiota is married and has two children.

The Madras Courier is the first newspaper to be established in the Madras Presidency, British India. Published on October 12, 1785, it was the leading newspaper of its time. Selling for a princely sum of one rupee, it thrived for three decades.
