Pratibha Nandakumar
Prathibha Nandakumar is a leading Kannada poet, journalist, film maker, columnist, and translator.
Her publications include 17 collections of poems, two collections of short stories, one autobiography, three biographies, two collections of column writings, two plays and seven translations of novels, short stories, plays and biographies. She also writes in English and is included in major anthologies globally. Her poems in English translation are a part of feminist studies in several universities in the US. Her poems are translated into major Indian languages and English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Finnish, Danish, Greek, and other languages.
She has translated Agni Sreedhar’s book into English as The Gangster’s Gita, Surendranath’s novella into English as Slices of the Moon Swept by the Wind, Anand Neelakanthan’s The Saga Of Sivagami into Kannada, Padma Sachdev’s Dogri poems into Kannada etc. Her forthcoming collection of English poems is What I Fed the Cat.
Her awards include - the Infosys Award for Literature, instituted at The North Karnataka Women Writers Association, Bangalore Lit Fest Lifetime Achievement Award, Mahadevi Verma Kavya Samman, Dr Shivarama Karanth Award, Kempe Gowda Karnataka State Award, Hoogar Memorial Award for Journalism among others.
