Lindsay Jaacks

I am formally trained in nutrition and epidemiology. For the first decade of my career, I studied how what we eat affects weight gain and the development of type 2 diabetes. More recently, I have transitioned to studying food systems, trying to understand how the way we produce, process and procure food affects our health and wellbeing. I am Professor of Global Health and Nutrition at the Global Academy of Agriculture and Food Systems at the University of Edinburgh and an Adjunct faculty member in the Department of Global Health and Population at Harvard University.

About Madras Courier

The Madras Courier is the first newspaper to be established in the Madras Presidency, British India. Published on October 12, 1785, it was the leading newspaper of its time. Selling for a princely sum of one rupee, it thrived for three decades.

Two centuries later, this legacy is revived digitally. Today, the Madras Courier serves a global audience of curious, intelligent readers interested in South Asian affairs. We curate interesting stories that enhance our understanding of the world in meaningful ways.
