James Brown

James Brown

James is interested in the social, economic, and cultural history of early modern England. He defended his Warwick doctorate on inns, taverns, and alehouses in the port town of Southampton in 2008, and has published on various aspects of drink and drinking in early modern urban communities. He also has long-standing interests in the digital humanities, project and event management, and impact and public engagement. He is currently based in the Department of History at the University of Sheffield, where he is Research Associate and Project Manager of the HERA-funded project Intoxicating Spaces: The Impact of New Intoxicants on Urban Spaces in Europe, 1600–1850: https://www.intoxicatingspaces.org/
