A tree is a gift that never stops giving. Here’s a poem that narrates the seven parables of a tree.

First parable

A tree is a prayer
cursed to never reach the sky

Second parable

Trees know
what happened here
before we arrived,
but they never tell us.

Or maybe we forgot
how to listen to
the language of the leaves.

Third parable

Where do the trees
hide their shade
on a rainy day?

From where do they
bring them back
on a midsummer noon?

Fourth parable

In the memory of trees
there are half-heard stories
of the traveller, who
rested under them for a while,
on their journey.

Fifth parable

Leaves are ears
with which the earth listens
the gossips of the wind.

Sixth parable

Write to me
if you ever hear
what the withered leaf
said to the tree
just before falling

Seventh parable

The day the sky falls
these trees will hold it up for us
for a few moments
