Dystopia meets hope — with sadness & a cautious mix of optimism and pessimism — in this poem.

Today it is raining,
I used to watch the raindrops running down the tin sheets,
Uncontrollable excitement and energy,
Squeals of laughter and joy.
Today’s rain lacks joy,
It did not bring back childhood laughter,
The rain in my memory – different time and place.
The pariah kite, wet wings, circled the city,
In grey skies, circle of motion
Like my mind going round and round,
