At Times, I Wonder

The idea of control, manifested through centuries of conditioning, can decimate the sense of self. Here’s a poem that questions the idea of taming.

At times, I wonder
What would my life have been
Had I been tamed as a child
And asked not to wander

After all these years
Why, all of a sudden?
An epiphany struck,
amidst life’s incessant journey

Some girls of my age,
crossed my path
To recount how blessed
I am to remain untamed

At times, I wonder
What does this word signify?
To be “tamed” or not
How does it matter?
