Lit Fest

When we go to literature festivals…

We come from near and far.
Hoping to meet
and make connections.
Showcase our writing.
Network with publishers, and agents.
The debut writers still fearful at the mic.
The seasoned divas who sashay in their silks,
always on the look out
for autograph seekers.
The taciturn award winners
who prefer to leave the venue
soon after they have spoken.
The party animals
eager for the festival soirées
and the chance to make merry
on another’s purse.
The reluctant participants
who bring a book to bury their noses
looking up only when pushed or prodded
by RJs and VJs
hoping to make some news.
Like meteors colliding,
we come from far and near,
creating craters and shockwaves,
crashing and energizing
and always making changes
to the atmosphere.

Madras Courier originally ran as a broadsheet with a poetry section. It was a time when readers felt comfortable sharing glimpses of their lives through verse. If you have a poem you’d like to submit, do email us at editor@madrascourier.com.
