Drops

Extinction has been a part of Nature. For each lost species, we weep for their passing and ignore our own.

We weep,
We weep,
For each animal species
That passes on
Without another trace
Of its breath on this earth.

We weep,
We weep,
When another plant,
Another animal
Takes the original’s place
And grows like wildfire.
But weep,
Oh! Weep!
For yourselves.
For you shall perish as well.

Madras Courier originally ran as a broadsheet with a poetry section. It was a time when readers felt comfortable sharing glimpses of their lives through verse. If you too have a poem you’d like to submit, do mail us at editor@madrascourier.com.
